User interviews (surgeons)
After talking with a couple of surgeons about what they expect from the app and the biggest features they will want to see, I learned that they don’t have more than 20 minutes to spend on the app. They want very quick access to knowledge (preferably videos) and want information targeted for their interests. They want private groups where they can share cases and ask for help from their peers.
Research and workshop
We did some workshops to clarify the goals and understandings from conducted interviews with the surgeons
Flows and wireframing
We tried to replicate every onboarding flow to see where the pain points are and how can we improve the experience.
Key findings
User needs to be actively engaged.
User needs a clear and distinctive purpose to use myAO
App should know what you want and need
Easy networking and reconnecting with peers
Content and interaction built around user's history. Create your own comfort zone.
Easy to use interface
Quick knowledge (SR)
Common understanding
Our intent is to make all information created, gathered, and aggregated inside the myAO ecosystem easily and selectively accessible for internal and external stakeholders to create a unique experience.
We can achieve that by contextualizing and personalizing the entire user stream and experience.
Contextual UX is the use of context-aware technologies that allow us to design and build experiences that are personalized to meet the unique needs of the individual user based on a specific situation or context of use.
Interest-specific stream
To satisfy the user’s needs and have very targeted information on the home stream, we included a swipe (tinder) feature in the onboarding process.
Users will be presented with a couple of different posts, cases, journals, or groups and can choose what is the content that suits them. Depending on this choices the stream will be more personalized and never filled with non-user-related content. If they want to skip this part they can always come back from profile settings and change their preferences.
Prototype validation with users
After we were done with the first designs and concepts we created a prototype and we ask for live session feedback from the actual users. We learned a couple of more things and also saw reactions and patterns of how they interact with the app.
